At Convent, we believe that church is more than a building, a place, or something we do on Sundays. Church is all about people having their lives radically changed through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That being said, we are a Southern Baptist church that finds its purpose, mission and direction from God’s Word. Convent was started nearly 200 years ago, so we are both rich in history and excited about all God has in store for our future.

All of us deal with difficulties, hardships, and questions that are sometimes tough to handle. We know that Christ can make a difference in our families, our work, our children, our marriages, and in everything we do. Therefore we rely on God’s word for help in dealing with every issue we face. When you visit Convent, you will hear a relevant message straight from God’s Word that will meet you at the point of your everyday life.

Our priority begins with helping people grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and then equipping them to share God’s love through serving others.

Our Services

Convent has three services each week – Sunday morning service at 10:30 am, Sunday evening service at 6:00 pm, and Wednesday evening service at 7:00 pm. During the Sunday and Wednesday evening services, we have excellent programs for children and students from 3 years old through 12th grade. Bible Study (aka Sunday School) is at 9:15 am each Sunday for all ages. We recommend you arrive approximately 10 minutes before the service so you won’t feel rushed.

What should I expect when I visit?

From the moment you walk in the door, you’ll be made to feel at home. Our greeters will be poised and ready to give directions or answer any questions you may have. If you have children, you’ll want to take advantage of our safe and secure children’s services designed just for them.

As you enter the sanctuary, our ushers and greeters will welcome you and hand you our information-filled bulletin. There are no reserved seats, so feel free to sit wherever you are comfortable. Then, sit back, relax, and enjoy the service! During the service, the pastor will ask our guests to fill out our Visitor’s Card. Feel free to fill in your information so that we can connect with you and let you know what Convent has to offer. Our worship services are blended, using both hymns and contemporary praise music. God’s Word is the foundation for all we do, so you will hear a message from God’s Word that is relevant to your life. Also, if you are a first-time guest, you can stop by the welcome table for a free gift.

There is no dress code at Convent. We want you to feel comfortable as you visit with us. You will find some in jeans and t-shirts, some in business casual dress and some with coats and ties. So whether you come casual or in your “Sunday best” – we would be honored to have you as our guest!

Parking for First Time Visitors

We have specially designated “visitor” parking spaces near the front of the Worship Building. As you come into the front entrance, you will be greeted warmly and will be given a bulletin that contains information on Convent. We do encourage you to arrive at least ten minutes early for worship services so that you do not feel rushed.

Childcare is available in our nursery for birth through two years of age. You are welcome to drop off your child in the nursery at the beginning or at any point of the service as you need. For your child’s security and your peace of mind, our nursery is staffed with caring, knowledgeable workers who have all been trained and screened with background checks.

Invitation to All

At the end of his message, the Pastor will offer an invitation to anyone who does not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ to place their faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior. He will also ask those who would like to become part of our church family or to be baptized to make that known as well. This is done by stepping out of your seat during the invitation and coming forward to speak with the pastor about your decision. Usually, we will be singing a song during this time and the pastor will have moved to stand down on the floor in front of the stage area. Anyone who may be in need of prayer can come forward and speak to the pastor.

  • BY PROFESSION OF FAITH – If you are not yet a Christian but would like to be, or if you are a Christian but have never been baptized by immersion as a believer, which the Word of God commands, our pastor will pray with you and guide you in your decision.
  •  BY TRANSFER OF LETTER – If you are a Christian and a member of a church of like faith and order, we will write to the church where you are a member and request that a letter of transfer be sent.
  • BY STATEMENT – If you are a Christian and have been baptized as a believer by immersion, and do not either have current membership in a church or are currently a member of a church that does not grant letters of transfer, you can receive membership by your affirmation of the above.

Convent Baptist Church does encourage biblical tithing of its members; however, our guests are welcome, but not expected to give anything. During this time, if you have filled out the “Visitor’s Card”, we ask you to place it in the offering plate.
